The preservation of live shrimp is the key to affecting and restricting the export of this product in the long term. Today, the inspection and quarantine department in Taicang, Jiangsu Province has issued a "reward for one post." Recently, scientific research projects undertaken by the Taicang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and carried out by the relevant experts of the Nanjing Agricultural University, Yangzhou University, the Shanghai Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the Henan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, and the Jiangsu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, completed the “Study of the Living Shrimp Transport Preservation Methodsâ€.
The current area of the Suzhou area is 235,000 mu with an annual output of 60,000 tons. Due to the difficulty in solving the transportation problem, the survival rate of live shrimp is low and the transportation cost is high, which has become a major puzzle for the export of this product. The “oxygen slow release agent†developed by this project has the characteristics of long release time of oxygen and uniform release rate, thereby prolonging the transport time of live shrimp. For the first time, the long-term waterless transport technology of freshwater live shrimp has been researched and successfully applied. In practice, the survival rate of commonly used live shrimp transportation methods is increased by more than 40%. The project has designed the inner box stratification, the outer box double-layer structure, and the new type of live shrimp transport crates. It has the characteristics of large shipping capacity, convenient operation, multiple use, and easy transportation.
Experts believe that the long-term water-free transport of freshwater live shrimp technology pioneered by this project will undoubtedly open the way for live shrimp to go abroad and will bring huge economic benefits to aquaculture.
