A case of sow poisoning in pregnant sows

In August 2005, the author interviewed a case of poisoning of pregnant sows due to feeding of potatoes. The results of the diagnosis and treatment are reported as follows:

1 The main clinical symptoms

The sows are excited, violent, aimlessly rushed, runny nose, vomiting, and then limb weakness, gait instability, dyspnea, abdominal pain-like symptoms, purple skin on the ears, ventral and dorsal skin, measuring body temperature 37.4°C, Auscultate heart failure and ask the owner if the appetite and the spirit of the pig are normal before the onset of the disease. The above symptoms will appear when the pig is fed a sprouted potato that has been detoured from the farmland. It should be diagnosed as potato poisoning.

2 treatment

2.1 strong heart protection. Intravenous injection of 10% glucose 500ml, Vc5g, coenzyme A500 units, camphor 1g, adenosine triphosphate 1000mg, subcutaneous injection of nikethamide.

2.2 Induced spit gastric lavage. After the pig was stable, 60 ml of 1% copper sulphate was administered. After vomiting, 0.5% citric acid solution was used to gastric lavage.

2.3 After the pig's spirit is stabilized, intramuscular progesterone is used for fetal protection.
