According to foreign media, Theranos has announced the launch of the second round of layoffs following the announcement of the closure of the clinical laboratory in October 2016 and the reduction of approximately 340 employees. It involves 155 employees, which together account for 41% of current employees.
Theranos confirmed that Elizabeth Holmes will continue to serve as CEO of the company.
The remaining employees will focus on miniLab technology. The technology was launched last August, and Holmes said it is part of the Theranos “decentralization†lab program. This means that the user does not need to send the test sample to the physical laboratory for testing.
Here is the statement from Theranos:
“Today, Theranos announced an adjustment to the company's operations. The company is currently working to promote the commercialization of the miniLab inspection platform and related technologies. In an optimized organizational structure, teams will coordinate to achieve product development, regulatory and commercialization goals.â€
“Therefore, the company identified a core team of 220 experts to execute its business plan and notified 155 employees that their position was cancelled. This is a tough decision. However, this initiative will help Theranos in the most efficient way. utilize resource."
“Previously Theranos made a series of major adjustments, including building a management team with additional expertise in regulation, compliance and operations.â€
