Sheep house design sketch map

(1) The area of sheep sheds and exercise areas should be carefully calculated based on the species, number, and feeding methods of the sheep. Overestimating the space can lead to unnecessary land use and higher construction costs, while underestimating it may cause difficulties in management and harm the health of the animals. For adult male rams, each should have 4.0 to 6.0 square meters. Lambs raised for breeding require 1.5 to 2.0 square meters, and weaned lambs need about 0.2 to 0.4 square meters. Other sheep should have 0.7 to 1.0 square meters per head. The lambing shed should be around 20% to 25% of the area of the main ewe shed, and the playground should be 1.5 to 3 times the size of the shed to allow enough movement.

(2) Temperature and humidity inside the sheep shed are crucial for the well-being of the animals. In winter, the temperature for lambs should remain above 10°C, while the general minimum should be above 0°C. During summer, temperatures should not exceed 30°C. The environment must stay dry, with air humidity below 70% to prevent dampness and disease.

(3) Proper ventilation is essential, especially in enclosed sheds. Good airflow helps remove stale air, keeps the environment fresh, and prevents respiratory issues among the sheep.

(4) Lighting is also an important factor in shed design. The amount of natural light depends on the height, span, and window size of the building. In colder regions, larger windows help increase indoor warmth by allowing more sunlight. However, in warmer climates, excessive lighting may make the space too hot, so a balance between insulation and ventilation is key during the design phase.

(5) The dimensions of the shed—length, span, and height—should be determined according to the type and size of the structure. A single-slope shed typically has a span of 5.0 to 6.0 meters, a double-slope single-row shed ranges from 6.0 to 8.0 meters, and a double-column shed is usually 10.0 to 12.0 meters wide. The height is generally between 2.4 and 3.0 meters.

Shed design parameters:

The corridor should be approximately 130 cm wide.

The wall height of the sports field: 130 cm for small-tailed sheep; 160 cm for goats.

Each sheep’s area: 480-450 square centimeters.

This corresponds to an area of 80-80 square centimeters per pen.

A removable hood is installed on each ridge.

Sheep land area: 1.5-2.0 square meters per ram; 0.8-1.0 square meters per non-pregnant ewe;

2.0-2.3 square meters per pregnant or nursing ewe; 0.5-0.6 square meters per young sheep.
