Sheep house design sketch map

(1) The area of sheep houses and exercise areas should be determined based on the species, number, and feeding methods of the sheep. An overly large space leads to unnecessary use of land and construction materials, increasing the cost per unit area for raising sheep. On the other hand, if the area is too small, it can hinder feeding management and negatively affect the health of the animals. The recommended area per type of sheep includes: 4.0 to 6.0 square meters for adult rams, 1.5 to 2.0 square meters for breeding lambs, and 0.2 to 0.4 square meters for weaned lambs. For other sheep, the required space is typically between 0.7 to 1.0 square meters. Lambing houses should occupy 20% to 25% of the area of the main ewe housing, while the outdoor play area should generally be 1.5 to 3 times the size of the indoor housing area.

(2) Temperature and Humidity in Sheep Sheds Winter lambing areas should maintain a minimum temperature above 10°C, while general sheep housing should stay above 0°C in winter. In summer, the temperature should not exceed 30°C. It's essential to keep the environment dry, with the ground not too damp. The relative humidity of the air should remain below 70% to ensure a healthy living environment.

(3) Ventilation and Airflow Proper ventilation is crucial in enclosed sheep sheds to remove stale air and maintain fresh indoor air. Good airflow helps prevent the buildup of harmful gases and ensures better overall conditions for the animals.

(4) Lighting and Natural Light The lighting design of the sheep shed depends on factors such as height, span, and window size. In colder regions, larger windows can help increase indoor temperatures by allowing more sunlight in. However, in hotter climates, excessive natural light may lead to overheating during summer. Therefore, the design should balance both insulation and ventilation needs.

(5) Dimensions: Length, Span, and Height The length, span, and height of the sheep house should be adjusted according to the building type and size. Single-slope sheep houses usually have a span of 5.0 to 6.0 meters, double-slope single-row structures range from 6.0 to 8.0 meters, and double-column types typically measure 10.0 to 12.0 meters. The height is generally between 2.4 to 3.0 meters.

Shed Design Parameters:
Corridor width is approximately 130 cm.
Exercise area wall height: 130 cm for small-tailed sheep; 160 cm for goats.
Each sheep’s area: 480–450 square centimeters.
Corresponds to an area of 80–80 square centimeters per pen.
A switchable hood is installed on each ridge.
Sheep land area: 1.5–2.0 square meters per ram; 0.8–1.0 square meters per non-pregnant ewe;
Pregnant or nursing ewes require 2.0–2.3 square meters per head; young sheep need 0.5–0.6 square meters per head.
