Researchers at the National University of Singapore Medical School have found that Flammulina velutipes contains a protein that can prevent allergies such as asthma, rhinitis, and eczema, as well as enhance immunity, and can even fight viral infections and cancer.
Professor Cai Kao-yuan of the Department of Pediatrics of the National University revealed that allergy is a disorder of the immune system caused by Th2 cytokines. Another group of researchers at the National University Medical School conducted a study on shiitake (commonly known as "Japanese mushroom") and found that Shiitake was very effective in preventing and treating cancer. Associate Professor Huang Lary of the Department of Microbiology revealed that shiitake polysaccharides contained in Shiitake have many immune-enhancing properties, including strengthening natural killer cells, thereby improving the immune system and fighting against viruses or cancer cells.

She and her student Dr. Ye Ande have developed an extraction method that can extract 100 times more lentinan than traditional methods.
Associate Professor Huang said: “Our research focuses on mushroom and shiitake mushroom. In fact, all kinds of mushrooms contain these proteins and lentinan polysaccharides that have improved immunity and anti-cancer efficacy, but different mushroom content is different.
