Caged chickens feed gravel well

According to the experiment, incorporating an appropriate amount of gravel into the feed of caged chickens can improve feed absorption and utilization by approximately 10%. Chickens that receive gravel show a much stronger and healthier constitution compared to those raised without it. When providing gravel to caged chickens, it's important to adjust the quantity and size based on their age. For example, with 1,000 chickens: between 5 to 8 weeks old, provide 4 to 4.5 kg of fine gravel per week that can pass through a 1 mm mesh sieve. From 9 to 12 weeks, increase the amount to 8 to 9 kg of gravel that passes through a 3 mm sieve. At 13 to 20 weeks, use 13 to 15 kg of gravel that can pass through a 3–4 mm sieve weekly. For chickens over 20 weeks, supply 12 to 13 kg of gravel that passes through a 4 mm sieve each week. Gravel can be mixed directly into the feed or placed in a separate sand trap for easy access. It is crucial to ensure the gravel is clean and free from contaminants. Before use, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water, then disinfect it using a 0.1% potassium permanganate solution or another suitable disinfectant. After disinfection, dry the gravel completely before offering it to the chickens. When transitioning from finer to coarser gravel, do so gradually over a period of 3 to 4 days. This helps prevent digestive upset or discomfort in the birds. Always monitor the chickens' behavior and health during any changes in their diet or feeding practices.
