Recently, the internationally renowned journal "Clinical Infectious Diseases" published a study completed by Dr. Zhao Yan, deputy director of the Center for Treatment and Care of the Center for STD/AIDS Prevention and Control of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The study is the first in the world to use large-scale samples to demonstrate that even HIV-infected people who are treated immediately at high CD4 levels will benefit from this, providing more direct scientific evidence for the “discovery-to-treat” strategy.

Zhao Yan introduced that CD4 cells are an important immune cell in the human body and the main target of HIV virus attack. The test results have an important effect on the judgment of AIDS treatment. Previously, the conventional free antiviral treatment standard in China was CD4+ T lymphocytes ≤500/mm3, and it was controversial whether the patients with CD4+ T lymphocytes >500/mm3 were immediately treated with antiviral therapy. The study conducted a one-year follow-up observation of all HIV-infected patients with high CD4 levels of CD4>500/mm3 from January 2012 to June 2014, and treated patients who received treatment within 30 days after CD4 as “immediate treatment”. In the group, those who received treatment from 30 days to 365 days after CD4 were treated as “delayed treatment” group, and those who did not receive treatment within one year were treated as “untreated” group. The study confirmed that the "immediate treatment" group had a 63% reduction in mortality compared to the "untreated" group. In addition to the direct effects of antiviral drugs, the study also believes that early inclusion of the AIDS care system, increased screening and diagnosis of cardiovascular and tumor diseases, as well as regular medical follow-up and psychological care for infected people, etc. The case fatality rate has contributed.

Wu Zunyou, chief expert of epidemiology at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that after the research results came out at the end of 2015, the research team was not eager to publish scientific papers, but instead tried to translate the research results into national AIDS prevention policies in a timely manner, so that more The infected person benefits. In conjunction with the World Health Organization treatment guidelines, the research team will use the research conclusions as an important scientific basis for adjusting the national free anti-viral treatment standards, and provide suggestions to the National Health and Family Planning Commission. In June 2016, the National Health and Family Planning Commission issued the “Notice on Adjusting the Standards of Free Antiretroviral Treatment for AIDS”, recommending antiviral treatment for all HIV-infected patients and patients who are willing to treat.
