How can you effectively speed up gas production in biogas digesters? In the normal temperature fermentation process, biogas generation is highly dependent on temperature. The temperature plays a crucial role in determining the rate of gas production. When the ambient temperature is low, gas output tends to be slower. However, as the temperature increases within an optimal range, the rate of biogas production also rises significantly.
To address the challenge of low-temperature fermentation, using a biogas starter or specialized fermentation agents can greatly improve efficiency. These professional biogas inoculants contain over 300 different microbial strains, with more than 200 million anaerobic bacteria per liter, of which about 50% are methanogens. These microorganisms reproduce rapidly under favorable conditions—sometimes multiplying tens or even hundreds of times per minute. This rapid growth accelerates the breakdown of organic matter, leading to a significant increase in gas yield.
When using such an inoculant, biogas production can begin within three to five days, and large-scale gas output can be achieved within seven days—up to ten times faster than with traditional methods. This makes it a powerful tool for improving the efficiency of biogas systems, especially in colder climates.
Additionally, when these agents are used, they help reduce the loss of volatile gases during the fermentation process. They also enhance the overall gas yield per unit of feedstock. To further boost performance, mixing in adsorbent materials can increase the contact area between microbes and the organic material, promoting better digestion. Moreover, the adsorption process itself generates heat, which helps raise the temperature inside the digester, creating a more favorable environment for methane-producing bacteria.
