PAPP-A is a zinc-dependent metalloproteinase associated with insulin-like growth factor originally found in the serum of pregnant women. Later studies found that PAPP-A can be secreted by different types of cells, and the tissue distribution is very wide. Some researchers have found that PAPP-A is expressed in human vascular smooth muscle cells, extracellular matrix, monocytes and vascular endothelial cells. Recently, foreign studies have found that PAPP-A is abundantly expressed in plaques that are corroded and ruptured, but rarely expressed in stable plaques. For this research, Song Linghua (Shanxi Medical University) made detailed experiments and explanations in his master's thesis. The results showed that the level of PAPP-A was significantly decreased during the treatment of statin patients with acute coronary syndrome, so it can provide a basis for the therapeutic effect of statins.
