Cancer diagnosis and treatment integration is no longer out of reach

How to achieve accurate diagnosis and treatment of cancer has always been a difficult problem and research hotspot in the medical field. With the rapid development of nanoscience and technology, the establishment and development of nanomedicine medicine provides a new multi-functional diagnosis and treatment platform for the early diagnosis and precise treatment of major diseases such as cancer. The new nanoprobes integrate diagnostic, therapeutic and therapeutic monitoring functions to enable imaging and treatment of tumors as well as real-time monitoring of treatment outcomes.

In order to overcome the worldwide problem of cancer, Professor Huang Peng of the School of Biomedical Engineering of the School of Medicine of Shenzhen University and the research group of Professor Chen Xiaoyuan of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) cooperated in a pioneering way to exploit the biological pigments in the human body. - Melanin as a raw material, the magnetic melanin nanoparticles (MMNs) were successfully synthesized by biomimetic method, and the characteristics of metal ions adsorbed by melanin were utilized to realize the rapid one-step radionuclide 64Cu 100% mark. The labeled nanoprobes can simultaneously target tumors using positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and photoacoustic imaging (PAI) imaging modes. In addition, melanin has a strong absorption of light in the near-infrared region, and has excellent photothermal conversion efficiency. The probe can achieve high-efficiency tumor photothermal treatment effect after accumulating in the tumor site with low laser irradiation. Multimodal imaging guided photothermal therapy. Surprisingly, MMNs also have UV and gamma ray protection (Figure 1). The nanoprobe is composed of melanin and triiron tetroxide, and both of them have good biocompatibility. Therefore, MMNs have extremely high clinical conversion application value.
