Recently, a company called Plume Labs and DigitasLBi have carried out an interesting project to put pigeons on a "smart backpack" to monitor air quality.
Plume Labs is a company that monitors air quality in 60 cities around the world and publishes air pollution forecasts through public data, but they are not just satisfied with the data published by weather stations, so they plan to use wearable devices to expand their sources of information.
This time, in collaboration with digital marketing company DigitasLBi, it developed a "smart backpack" that can be placed on pigeons. With a weight of only 25 grams, the device can detect ozone, carbon dioxide, volatile compounds and other substances in the air without affecting the flight of the pigeons. It plans to build a flight squadron with 10 pigeons for a three-day mission.
The pigeon squadron has been on duty on the 14th of March in London, mapping the pollution map of London in real time, and London citizens can get the nearby air condition on twitter.
Pierre Duquesnoy, creative director of project leader DigitasLBi, said that the project was carried out to remind people that air pollution is relevant to people.
“Most of the time people talk about air pollution and think of Beijing or other places, but the truth is that there are always a few days in the air in London that are worse than the one in Beijing.â€
