Dead fish often occur during the process of netting and transportation, causing significant losses and frustration among farmers and traders. After netting, it's common to find dead fish ranging from dozens to thousands of catties, leading to poor sales, price drops, and even heavy financial losses. During transport, salt and antibiotics are often used, while ponds are treated with chlorine dioxide or lime after netting. However, these practices are not only harmful to aquatic products but also ineffective and sometimes dangerous. The main reasons for fish and shrimp deaths include: 1. Accumulation of leftover feed and waste in the pond over months leads to poor water quality, with high levels of ammonia, nitrites, and hydrogen sulfide. 2. At the end of the culture cycle, fish and shrimp suffer from liver overload and are in a weakened state. 3. Stress caused by netting and transport can lead to sudden deaths. 4. Overuse of antibiotics and disinfectants may disrupt the natural mucus production of fish. Many farmers rush to sell their fish and shrimp when they are sick, hoping to minimize losses, but this only worsens the situation. During hot weather, fish and shrimp are especially prone to stress and death. To address these issues, the Fangcao Hang Seng Fisheries Technical Service Center developed a five-step method called “Pull Net Five Steps.” This approach focuses on improving the environment and reducing stress, proven effective in Shunde and other regions across South China. It is widely used for various species and has shown remarkable results. Step 1: Reduce or stop feeding two days before netting to lower metabolic activity and oxygen demand, minimizing stress. Step 2: Improve water quality, especially the bottom layer, using probiotics like Bacillus or EM bacteria three to five days before netting to reduce harmful substances. Step 3: Use natural anti-stress products such as "Ginger Kushen Liquid" 5–12 hours before netting to help fish stay calm and reduce physical damage. Step 4: Apply a concentrated solution of "Ginger Sophora flavescens" in the transport cage to enhance mucus production and improve resistance. Step 5: Immediately apply a water purifier after netting to clean the water body and prevent disease spread. This five-step method is safe, easy to implement, cost-effective, and free from drug residues. It meets safety standards for aquatic products and can be applied to fish, shrimp, crabs, and shellfish. By reducing losses during harvest, it significantly boosts profits and is definitely worth trying.
