Rapeseed seedlings need to be broadcast

Rape seedlings, due to their small size and high germination rate, often result in a dense stand, overcrowding, and poor nutrient absorption later on. This leads to weak growth, short seedlings, and poor resilience. When transplanted to the field, these seedlings tend to be pale, prone to lodging, and have lower yields. Therefore, it's crucial to manage the planting density carefully during the nursery stage. The seeding rate should be controlled, and broadcasting should be done as evenly and thinly as possible. The general ratio of seedbed area to field area is typically maintained at around 1:5, meaning that for every mu of field, about 0.2 mu (two-tenths of an acre) of seedbed is needed. The recommended seeding rate for the seedbed is usually around 0.5 kg per mu, which translates to about 100 grams of seeds per mu. In practice, this rate can be adjusted based on several factors such as seed size, sowing time, germination rate, land preparation quality, soil moisture, and pest control. For instance, if the seeds are small, sown early, or the conditions are favorable, you may slightly increase the seeding rate. However, in less ideal conditions, it’s better to reduce it. Nevertheless, the seeding rate should not exceed 0.6 kg per mu under any circumstances. To ensure even distribution, seeds should be mixed with fine soil before sowing. After the seedlings emerge, it's important to perform weeding and thinning at the three-leaf stage to prevent overcrowding and leaf overlap. This helps maintain a uniform stand and promotes healthy growth. By implementing proper management practices during the nursery phase, strong and vigorous seedlings can be produced, laying a solid foundation for high yields in the future.
