Raised pig farming, also known as cage-raising, is an advanced technique widely used abroad and offers numerous benefits:
1. This system allows for effective temperature and humidity control through heating and ventilation, enabling the pigs to stay warm in winter and cool in summer. This environment supports better growth and development.
2. The feeding process is more efficient with automatic drinkers and feeders, allowing pigs to eat freely. Waste is directed to the ground below the cages, reducing contamination of the feed and keeping the area clean and hygienic.
3. It is easier to monitor and manage the pigs, as they are all contained within a structured space.
4. Disease prevention and treatment are more manageable due to the cleanliness and controlled environment.
5. This method improves barn utilization and reduces labor requirements. Each pig can be raised in about 5 square meters, allowing 8–10 pigs per unit. A farmer can efficiently manage up to 400–500 pigs.
The design of the cage system includes a total house area of 60 square meters, with two rows of cages, each containing three tiers. Each individual pig pen measures 5.2 square meters, equipped with a 250-watt infrared heat lamp, a duckbill-type drinking fountain, and a 20 cm height from the bottom of the cage. The feed trough is 30 cm high, made from 23-angle steel and galvanized iron. The feed inlet is wide and designed with varying heights for easy filling. An activity pendulum is installed so that when pigs move, the feed is released.
According to experiments, only 2.1 kg of feed is needed to gain 1 kg of weight. However, due to the limited space in the cages, pigs should not be kept in them for too long. It's recommended to raise them from 80 to 90 days old or until they weigh over 50 kg. Keeping them longer may lead to leg deformities due to lack of exercise.
This modern approach not only enhances productivity but also ensures better animal welfare and farm efficiency.
Polypropyl carbonate is soluble in polar solvents such as ketones, ethyl acetate, dichloromethanes and chlorohydrocarbons, and insoluble in alcohols, water and aliphatic hydrocarbons. It also forms a stable emulsion in the water. PPC allows gases like oxygen to diffuse through it. The glass temperature (Tg) is between 25 and 45℃, and PPC adhesives are amorphous. The glass temperature of PPC is slightly higher than that of polyethyl carbonate (PEC).
